Cedar Hill is THE BEST COMMUNITY ANYWHERE! We are so fortunate to have citizens that truly care for their neighbors. We have the most helpful, caring, hardest working volunteers anyone could ask for. Last week , preparing for this distribution week, was like a whirlwind. There were so many volunteers delivering and helping it was hard to find a parking place. Another reason we need a bigger building with a bigger parking lot. We had to get creative in finding space to put the food and people working not counting the clients.
Monday, Dec. 14 there were 30 families standing on the front porch BEFORE we opened at 1:00. Within three hours 60 families received "regular food allotments" plus a gift bag, Christmas meal bag and a turkey or hen (depending on the number of people in the family).
Tuesday, Dec. 15 a group of volunteers tirelessly restocked shelves, made gift bags and purchased more turkeys.
Wed. Dec.16 was another banner day for Cedar Hill Food Pantry. Our Amazing volunteers unloaded- loaded-unloaded and reloaded 50 frozen turkeys in the morning plus stocked shelves, In the afternoon they distributed food + Christmas meals including a turkey or roasting hens (depending on the size of the family) to 57 families. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL. Those that donated the food, those that unloaded and stocked it , those that made Christmas dinner bags and gift bags and those that distributed the meals.
Thursday, Dec. 17 another group of volunteers restocked shelves, bought, unloaded and reloaded more turkeys and made ready for Fri. Dec.18 and Sat. Dec.19 distribution.
I'm not talking two or three people. It has truly taken a village to make this Christmas merry for those needing help. Cedar Hill knows how neighbors help neighbors.
The Pantry will be closed the week of Christmas to allow our volunteers and staff time to recoup. If you feel a need to join us in helping your neighbors the shelves will be empty and there is a need to restock before we reopen Dec. 30. Give us a call at 972-293-2822.
Merry Christmas to you all.
