The Cedar Hill Fire Department has reached out to make sure their community has reason to give thanks. Certainly the 13 families they provided a complete Thanksgiving Dinner to have reason to be thankful. Every citizen in the city of Cedar Hill should be equally as thankful for the service and time these people do daily. They not only put their lives "on the line" daily for us, but they are constantly looking out for ways to take care of us.
Thank you, Cedar Hill Fire Department.
Thank you one and all Trinity Church and School members, staff and students for again giving your Cedar Hill neighbors that are having a hard time making ends meet a reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving.
Saturday, Nov. 14 these wonderful people took over the parking lot of Cedar Hill Food Pantry and made 285 Thanksgiving meal bags. They had enough extra items they could have made 400 bags, but I asked them to allow us to re-stock the shelves with the extra. They also made a sizable cash donation to help re-stock.
Monday Nov. 16 there were 30 families on the porch when the doors opened at 1:00 waiting to receive their "regular weekly food" plus a complete Thanksgiving meal.
Before the three hour shift was over 62 families received food.
We are not through yet.
Wed. Nov. 18 1:00-4:00, Friday, Nov 20 9:00-noon and Sat., Nov. 21 10:00-1:00
the other 200 families will be in to receive their weekly food and Thanksgiving.
The Pantry will be closed the week of Thanksgiving to allow staff and volunteers time to be with their families.
None of this could happen without the generous donations of money, food and time of volunteers.
It takes over 30 volunteers hours to stock shelves, make units and distribute.
Without these generous people we literally could not open our doors.
I wish I could say Thanksgiving and Christmas is a one time occasion.
The Food Pantry feeds approximately 275 families every week 12 months a year.
The First Baptist Church Cedar Hill has committed to provide meal bags for Christmas that will be distributed Dec. 14-19.
We would like to give a big thank you to the Cedar Hill Fire Department and Hillcrest Baptist Church for providing Thanksgiving meals for 16 families that were not registered by the cut off date of Nov. 1
Cedar Hill is such an amazing city. There is truly none other like it.
As we prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday, we are reminded of how grateful we are for the many blessings we receive at the Food Pantry and New 2 You Thrift Store. We are thankful for the caring and generous volunteers and donors who everyday give tirelessly of their time and resources to make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community. The Food Pantry and New 2 You stand as beacons of hope for the needy among us. Our mission is to help those in need in Cedar Hill.
On November 14, 2015 members of Trinity Church and School will convene on the Food Pantry parking lot to put together Thanksgiving Dinner bags complete with turkey and all the "fixings" for 200 of our 275 families. The CH Fire Department and Hill Crest Church have committed to help feed the other 75 families. All 275 families will be receiving their "Regular weekly allotment of food " plus the Thanksgiving meal. Distribution is scheduled Nov. 16,18, 20 and 21 during regular distribution hours. The Pantry will be closed the week of Thanksgiving to allow staff and volunteers to be with their families.
Joining us in efforts to strengthen, improve and increase our services is the newly formed Cedar Hill Shares Faith Council. I am pleased that at the Council's first meeting on October 29, 2015 representatives from 7 different faith-based denominations convened and discussed concrete ways to better assist and serve the growing efforts of the Pantry and Thrift Store. The Council will spread the good news about services and programs offered by Cedar Hill Shares. In addition to "spreading the word" the Council will seek to provide volunteer services and will solicit and identify potential "big" donors to sponsor our capital building project.
Sandy Eddy, Store Manager at New 2 You is excited and pleased to announce that the store will be "decked out" in Christmas decorations on November 17, 2015. So everyone is invited to stop by and take a peek.
By-the-way, all orange tagged clothing items and flower arrangements are on sale now - just in time for early Christmas shopping!
If you are not in the market for clothes or flowers, you can check out the furniture. The Thrift Store is the perfect place to find that "hard to find" table or chair --- come on by -- the Welcome Mat is always out! It could also be on sale.
