There are several opportunities for volunteers at the Cedar Hill Food Pantry. Our goal is to match you with jobs that you will enjoy the most. Opportunities include assisting with food distribution and/or stocking. The following is information about the various activities that take place at the pantry on a weekly basis.
Monday and Wednesday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m. - noon
Saturday 9:00 a.m. - noon
On these days we are open for clients to come in and get their food or to apply for assistance. Volunteers are needed to get the shelves ready for distribution, greet clients, assist in filling the food baskets, and assist the clients to their car, if needed.
Each week the Food Pantry receives food from the North Texas Food Bank, area grocers and through generous donations from within our community. These items are stocked by employees and volunteers each morning Monday through Friday to be prepared for those coming in for food assistance. The times vary with the amount of food that needs to be put on the shelves.
The Food Pantry began having clients "self-select" so they could choose what their families would eat and allow for dietary restrictions. This eliminated the need for hundreds of “units” of food having to be put in plastic bags for distribution but there continues to be a need for some units for emergency food distribution.
Holiday meal distribution at Thanksgiving and Christmas requires additional volunteer help.
Special events such as Fashion with Flair, Taste of Cedar Hill and Country Day on the Hill as well as other community events also require volunteers. There is always something meaningful to do at Cedar Hill Shares.
Thanks for sharing your time!
