There are several opportunities for volunteers at the Cedar Hill Food Pantry. Our goal is to match you with jobs that you will enjoy the most! On the application the various opportunities are listed. The following information is about the various activities that take place at the pantry on a weekly basis.
Monday and Wednesday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m. - noon
Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
On these days we are open for the clients to come in and get their food or for clients to apply for assistance. Volunteers are needed to get the shelves ready for distribution, greet the clients, fill the food baskets, and assist the clients to their car, if needed, take applications and answer the phone.
Generally, the hours of Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon are used to shelve the items. The times vary with the amount of food that needs to be put on the shelves.
In addition, the pantry receives several thousand pounds of food each Tuesday from North Texas Food Bank and it has to be unloaded from the truck and shelved, so more volunteers are needed on Tuesday afternoon.
Making Units/ Brown bag Extras
Every week, several hundred “units” of food have to be put in plastic bags for distribution. Brown bag Extras are also made up ahead of time for distribution.
During the year there are other special events such as the holiday meal distribution, Fashion with Flair, and Country Day on the Hill. Many Volunteers are needed at these events, also. There is always something meaningful to do at the Cedar Hill Food Pantry!
Thanks for sharing your time!
